New England Fall Conference
ABClub / USPS Districts 12/14/19

This year's multi-district conference, sponsored by Districts 12, 14 and 19, will be held at the Samoset resort, overlooking scenic Rockland harbor and Penobscot Bay during the weekend of 22-24 October. Saturday will be filled with speakers, training and district business meetings. Chief Commander Mary Paige Abbott will attend as national representative.

- Environmental 'Canaries' In The Gulf of Maine - Heather Richard presents an in-depth look at what microplastics are and how they are impacting our environment. Her information is a wakeup call to action.
- What's Up With Charts - Because paper charts are going away, NOAA has created an application so you can print vector charts. But it isn’t easy and some information may be missing. P/V/C Bob Sweet, SN will show you how to do it right!
- Modern Marine Weather Forecasts: An Update - Ronald Kessel presents an overview of advances in supercomputers, weather satellites, the internet, and mobile devices and how these advances have profoundly changed modern marine weather forecasts and the ways recreational boaters get them.
- How to Present a Live AND Online Hybrid Class - People are accustomed to learning on line and want to do so. To reach a broader audience and build our organization, P/V/C Bob Sweet, SN, will show us a hybrid approach using on line sessions with local hands-on coaching.

Andrew R. WilsonProf. Andrew R. Wilson, Ph.D. is the John A. van Beuren Chair of Asia-Pacific Studies at the US Naval War College. His presentation is entitled Treasure Fleets of the Ming Dynasty: the voyages of Zheng He .

For USPS D19, D14, and D12, The Samoset has reserved a limited number of Partial Ocean View rooms, with either king or two queen beds, for only $139 per night, plus tax. They have waived the resort fee. Rooms may be rented at this price from Wednesday Oct. 20 to Monday Oct. 25.
To obtain the group rate, reservations must be made NLT 30 September, and the person must identify as “USPS District 19” (phone reservation) or use the online link above to get discounted rate.
ROOM AVAILABILITY
If the resort has sold out of rooms at the $139 rate you will find a number of highly rated hotels and inns with a very short drive of the resort. Log onto Trip Advisor and search Rockland or Rockport hotels. A quick search for prices for that weekend turned up four priced from $99 to $151, per night, all within a 10 minute drive. All had hundreds of reviews and an average rating of 4.5 to 5 stars.
